Building an Integrated PRA Model Across Oceans and International Boundaries

The International Space Station (ISS) Program is an international program consisting of partners spanning 15 countries. Completing a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) model to cover all these international partner elements and contributions is a huge challenge. Every partner and/or agency has a different culture and approach to implementing risk management, safety, and mission assurance as they each design, build, launch, and operate their own contributions to the ISS Program. Visiting vehicles will be coming to the ISS from four or more countries. Ensuring one seamless risk management system and PRA model that can be quantified in relation to consistent end-states is a challenge of technical, cultural, and management skills. This presentation will layout the lessons learned to building and maintaining a risk management system as well as an integrated PRA model for the ISS.
